Park Board Meeting April 10th, 2018

Happy Spring, I guess!

I wanted to forward this information regarding the potential purchase of some additional land by the City of St. Cloud near the George W. Friedrich Park.  I you would like to attend the Park Board Meeting it is held in the City Council Chamber Hall at 6 p.m on April 10th .  If you would like to send an email in support of cycling at the park and expressing your interest in promotion of cycling you can do so by emailing Scott Zlotnick at scott.zlotnick@st.cloud.mn.us or by calling 320-257-5959.

The St. Cloud Planning Commission will be considering a request from the St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Department at its regularly scheduled meeting this Tuesday, April 10, 2018, to acquire property for the expansion of George W. Friedrich Park using Development Fund money (see Agenda Item #10 under New Business). The property is a 12-acre parcel that is listed as the Harmon Property. The parcel abuts the proposed George W. Friedrich Park expansion and is bounded by the Talahi Care Center and townhomes on the west, the St. Cloud Public Works Facility on the north, the proposed George W. Friedrich Park Expansion on the east, and University Drive Southeast on the south.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday Season and everyone is ready to take on 2018!

We had a great turn out at our Global Fat Bike Day Ride back on December 5th with over 30 riders participating!  Later that night we celebrated at Beaver Island Brewing Co. our new Fat Bike Trail groomer (The SnowDog) and raised money for our winter grooming efforts lead by Matt Van Vleet.  We pulled in around $1,000.00 and everyone left with a prize (or 3) from the raffle.  Thanks again to Fitzharris Bike and Sport, Revolution Cycle and Ski, 45North, Wolf Tooth, Onyx and Podiumwear for your donations!   Now we need some snow so he can take that bad boy out for a spin on our local trails!

Where to Ride?

Plum Creek and The North Loop (aka Jail Trail)
Can be ridden at all times.
PLEASE STAY OFF THE NORDIC SKI TRAIL
Fat Bike Tires ONLY!

Stearns County Park Trails
I've been told that all Stearns County Park Trails can be ridden with a Fat Bike or hiked on while they wait for enough snow to groom.  All walking trails can be biked on throughout the winter as well.  Once there is enough snow for grooming then please stick to just the walking trails while biking.

Look for some group rides in the New Year, we have a few ideas up our sleeves!

Upcoming Ski Event at Quarry Park
Non Cycling event but still Winter Fun!!!
The 2018 Moonlight Ski at Quarry Park is on Friday, January 5 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. In addition to connecting with others who enjoy skiing and using the lighted trails, there will be a "Hot Tent" demo and ski lessons (courtesy of Prairie Woods Environmental Center who has partnered with Stearns County Parks utilizing Legacy funding; Prairie Woods will be bringing skis to expand access for those new or newer to Nordic skiing). There will also be the chili feed and door prizes.

Happy Trails!
